Speed Issue

I bought a Brutus HD PTO a couple of months ago and I'm less than impressed so far. The unit was delivered without working A/C and intermittent power steering. I'm confident those issues will be resolved but I am REALLY dissatisfied with the speed issue.

My Brutus has a top speed of 20mph on a flat black top road and that's after the Command Module/lever update. It creeps up hills slower than I can walk them. I know this has been discussed in previous threads but I haven't seen a resolution yet.

Is this normal and has anyone found a solution?

I don't know if it is normal.I have seen the same speed as you. 20 downhill on blacktop. It is not an issue for the wife and I, we purchased it for dragging trees and hauling rocks. When it is loaded and going uphill it is very slow. But it has pulled everything we have put on it, probably to the point of abuse. We looked at the 900s, but the diesel goes for a long time on a tank of fuel. I have no qualms about recommending the Brutus for a work vehicle. I don't have to start and drive our GMC diesel just to drag trees or haul rocks or whatever. I do have a 500 atv to chase cows on occasion, or carry a sprayer for thistles. I can't see us trying to stay up with my sisters when they go trail riding with the Brutus, but I don't think their Ranger or Razor will do the things we do every day.
Just my opinion.

When we purchased the Brutus the dealer told us it was very slow but powerful. They also told us that the Hot Shots used them to haul water to fight fires where larger trucks could not access. We tried it out in the parking lot before we bought, so we had an idea of the speed, especially when compared to the Ranger 900. We had to give it some thought before we decided to go with the Brutus, mainly because of the price difference between it and the Ranger. I do not know how long it runs on a tank of diesel, but our 500 ATV drinks more gas. I think it all depends on its intended use. I may be wrong, but I don't think it would be very good for boonie busting or trail riding. As you have seen, it is very slow up a steep grade, and what little I have ridden with family, speed is part of the fun.
Hope this helps

Agreed. If joy riding is a big part of your intended use, I'd look at the Ranger. I too am impressed with how little fuel this thing burns. I thought my gas gauge broken on my first tank.
