I am a newby here (first time writer, long time reader
) and was hoping to get a little guidance on an electrical issue i am having with my 2013 Brutus. I haven't had any problems until now and have been happy with the performance so far. I believe the issue is minor, however, I could use some advice on pinpointing whats going on if anyone out there can guide me, it would be much appreciated. So here is what i have experienced so far...
I was on vacation and one of my employees was going to use the Brutus. He says when he went to start it, it had no power and thought the battery was dead. Charged the battery, still no power anywhere. So when I got home, i found the battery was at 30% charge. Charged the battery up, still no power anywhere (no lights, no dash power, no dump bed, nothing at all would turn on with fully charged battery). I finally found a blown 20 amp fuse that protects the ECM. I replaced the fuse, it did start and i drove it for a few minutes, everything was working fine. Later that evening, I hopped in to see if it would start again and it did. I shut it off and tried it one more time to be sure and it popped the same fuse again. I left it for a few days until I had time to dig in. When i got back to it, the battery was dead again. Charged battery, attempted to start, fuse seems to blow when I have the ignition turned to where the glow plug is heating, not all the way to where the starter is actually engaged. Last night I charged the battery again and was hoping to get it running long enough to get it in my shop, however, now not only will it blow a fuse if it's warming the glow plug for more than a couple seconds, but now it will not turn over when I turn the key to the starting position. So thats where I'm at as of now. I'm thinking the ECM is bad/shorted out and my battery has a dead cell and also needs replaced. That is an uneducated guess though and was wondering how i could confirm that the ECM is bad or not bad? The battery I can handle as far as confirming its condition one way or the other and I am handy with my multi-meter, so guidance on testing the ECM would help me out or suggestions of other areas I may need to check out if I am way off here would also be helpful. Sorry for the book, just trying to include any details I can think of. Thank you
